Dallas Magician profiled in online Dallas magazine

As Dallas Texas based corporate event entertainers, the biggest challenge we often face is getting the word out about our programs. Frankly, as a magician I’d much rather be working on my act then spending my time “selling” said act. But in the equation Show+Business=Fun For Everyone; the business of promoting the show is inescapably important.

With that in mind, I was recently reading an article on the important difference between PR and advertising written by Rob Wynne. Mr Wynne is a pretty smart fellow and this stuff is both his show and business. So I paid attention. In explaining the differences about Public Relations versus Advertising he stated, “Advertising is paid media, public relations is earned media.  This means you convince reporters or editors to write a positive story about you or your client, your candidate, brand or issue.  It appears in the editorial section of the magazine, newspaper, TV station or website, rather than the “paid media” section where advertising messages appear.  So your story has more credibility because it was independently verified by a trusted third party, rather than purchased.”

In other words, I could buy space to say, “Becker Magic is Amazing!” But it would be fair for you to think, “Says who?” However, if a reporter or unbiased witness takes it on themselves to say, “Dallas’ Becker Magic was incredibly fun!” it carries more weight to the person exposed to both messages. As an added benefit, PR doesn’t cost me money… The reporter is actually providing a service to their readers. So everybody wins.

Of course the key part of Rob Wynne’s thesis is that a person seeking PR must work hard to convince a reporter to find what you do newsworthy and take the time and effort to report on you… So imagine my surprise when Voyage Dallas, an online magazine contact me ASKING for an interview so that they could publish an article about Becker Magic!

Our schedule is extremely busy this year (as an entertainer that is a blessing), but in light of the above mentioned article you can be sure we made that interview a priority!

Please jump over and take a look!
